Medical billing employment is actually one of the best kept secret fields in the nation, this field is expected to grow by 2016. Employment in the medical billing can be a part time or full time job. Usually any type of profession in the medical field is in high demand. By becoming a medical biller you can work in a hospital or medical setting and not actually have to deal with patients. Medical billers must establish good relationships with insurance companies due to the fact that Medical billers are the people who get the paperwork done with the insurance folks to ensure payment has been rendered to the doctors or hospital.

The advantages to seeking medical billing employment is that the work can be done from home. This is a fantastic opportunity for stay at home parents to earn some extra money on the side.

Before seeking medical billing employment, you must be aware of the training that is involved. It begins with having a high school diploma, once you have that you can then begin to pursue training. There are classes made available through community colleges, or vocational schools. You may also find online courses that maybe better suited with your schedule. If you commit to training classes you will find jobs.


Finding medical billing employment also depends on the size of the community or neighborhood you live in. The larger the community the more jobs there are available. Do your research before committing to the training program.

Also being a medical biller be aware that this is a very detail oriented job. If you do not code the medical procedure correctly for the insurance companies the doctors will not get paid. The pay is great for coders. However the coder job is very complex. You will need to know the CPT Codes and the ICD-9 codes and have them readily accessable, this is why coders are paid generously.

Another thought you may want to consider that will help you be more marketable is pursing a Medical Billing certification. If you take the national exam and become a Medical Billing Specialist you may find it easier to get a job. You will be required to complete field hours before earning the certification. These field hours will help you build your resume and will give you a taste of the profession outside of the classroom experience.

Look into the duties involved in medical billings, by knowing what kinds of duties are involved you can focus your training. For example, interpreting and coding medical procedures, consulting with insurance companies or patients, preparing invoices for services rendered, and/or keeping detailed records for the office. These are typical duties for a medical biller, duties can vary and usually are determined by the need of that particular doctor's office or hospital.

With the training of becoming a medical biller you can also become a medical coding specialist, medical billing specialist, clerk, consultant and/or insurance agent. This way you have more options and can conform to the demand of the community to whom you are offering medical billing services. It best to gain experience in all of the areas of medical billing just so that your resume will be strong amongst the competition and you will have more room to choose the nature of your employment.
